CENTRAL VERMONT RWY NUMBER PLATE
From 2-8-0 Number 466 which was an N-5a class engine built by Schenectady in 1923.
20 1/4\" long, 11 1/2\" wide over brackets
The number plate is one side of the illuminated triangular number plates found on the smokebox of Canadian National steam locomotives. See my photograph of the same type of plate on CV 467 that I took on one of the fan trips I rode on the southern division during the steam era. A CV 2-8-0 was the usual power on the trips.
I think the front of the frame is bronze. As can be seen in the photo, the rear is screwed on to the front. The rear has some rust and I do not know if it can be unscrewed to change the number.
The glass is relatively clean and clear -- the photo has reflections that add color not there.
