China 1913 Lung-Tsing-U-Hai Railway Gold Loan £20 Bond Uncancelled (Unissued) Reserve stock.Classified as type 281 RS in China\'s Foreign Debt 1865 ~ 1982 by Wilhelm KuhlmanThere was a total number of 1500 Reserve Stock bonds made along with the Regular issues of the 1913 Lung-Tsing-U-Hai Railway bond in the same year, 90 pieces of these were used to replace the Regular bonds (signed circulation issues with serial numbers) that were either lost or damaged during circulation, this left the exact total of only 1410 pieces of original uncancelled RS bonds recorded by the banks (all without serial number and signatures, as one shown above) , obviously less had survived today and probably only very few of which had survived in (unfolded) pristine condition. These RS bonds, (unlike their Regular Issue counterparts which exist in far greater numbers with over 220,000 pieces made and are currently being sold at around $950 each), are the REAL rarity of the Lung-Tsing-U-Hai Railway bonds in any case and are far more valuable. Whlhelm Kuhlman quoted these bonds in his well-known book (China\'s Foreign Debt 1865 - 1982) with a valuation 3 times higher than the regularissues.
The bond shown above is in amazing uncirculated condition with full coupon sheet attached, paper is extremely crisp and fresh without any discolorations,the bond has perfect edges and very sharp corners and is free from any folds, tears or any noticeable damages - truly remarkable condition for such a large bond that is over 100 years old. The last photo shows a partial area of the bond being zoomed-in which should give you some ideas about its quality. This is perhaps the finest piece ever offered on by far.
