The Cavalier CMD 12 Case Coca Cola machine, is a very popular model for home use simply because of its size. Beginning around 1935, Westinghouse built many models of “Chest Type” machines for commercial use.In 1945, Cavalier began manufacturing its versions of the chest type Coca Cola cooler based off the names Westinghouse had been using. For our purposes here, we are going to focus on the 12 case “Bow Out” Coolers only, as they are the most popular. The 12 Case cooler came in three versions. Cavalier built an Electric water cooled version (the CME for Cavalier Master Electric). And in 1947, an air cooled version (the CMD for Cavalier Master Dry, meaning it cools the air inside, not water). The model number might then be followed by an additional letter, indicating the series of that version. The first version was simply, CMD. The following versions were CMD-B, C and finally D which continued production into 1966. All these versions of the CMD were referred to in the sales brochure simply as the C-12. All Cavalier Coca Cola chest type coolers were painted Solid Red with white lettering until 1957, when Two-Tone, Red and White paint schemes became an option.
