VINTAGE CZECH BEADS: Cobalt \'Ornelka\' Russian Cuts
510Bead Heaven!

ABOUT THIS LISTING:

This listing is for15 contemporary 7 x 7 mm vintage cobalt blue glass \'Ornelka\' Russian Cut beads, (temporarily strung or packaged). The name, Russian is just a nickname & doesn\'t have anything to do with the beads origins. These transparent dark, deep cobalt, barrel, faceted beads are incredibly lovely.

These beads were manufactured as contemporary replicas of the old original Russian Blues Venetian & Bohemian trade beads. In the \'90\'s their company Jablonex gave them the term \'Ornelka\' beads. (Jablonex was a Czech Republic company). Jablonex closed it\'s doors in 2009. These are \'Jablonex era\' beads. Unfortunately because of market pricing & fashion downturns these beads are disappearing from North America. So! This faceted bead is hard to find & I am so glad I can offer what I have left.

Also you might note that these cobalt Russian Cuts were manufactured in the Czech Republic which was historically known as & was called Bohemia. The Czech Republic has always excelled in the fine glass work & bead making that it has become famous for since the 11th century.

We have combined shipping. These beads will make you happy! We have a all sales final / no refund policy.

RUSSIAN BLUES BEAD HISTORY:

Historically the blue ancestor bead style to these cobalt contemporary beads that are in this listing were known by the name Russian Blues & were manufactured without their facets in Bohemia & Venice. The unfaceted beads were shipped across Russia. It is agreed upon among experts that the Russians had nothing to do with the manufacturing of these beads, but the mostly blue glass beads crossed Russia & on into China where they were hand faceted with grinding wheels. Traders then shipped them to Alaska & down the North American Coast into the American Northwest.

They appeared in Alaska prior to the 1870\'s. They were popularly traded during the fur trade era between the Native American Indians & the fur traders. The old antique Russian Blue beads were & are still known for their numerous facets, irregular number of facets, & their transparent & opaque blue coloring. Most famously they are known by their name Russian Blues. They were also made in several other colors some of which are very rare. The old ones are valuable & collectible.
