Heat Setting

The Onyx has two heat settings, and is designed to heat a room up to 400sq. ft. The heating element warms up quickly, and when used with your home\'sprimary heating source you\'ll find you\'ll be able to raise your roomtemperature to get a real cozy setting. The heat setting is controllable fromthe side of the unit or from the remote control. You can also put the heat onthe built in timer setting, where the Onyx will shut off in anywhere from 30minutes to 8 hours

Please contact us ASAPImpressive FireplaceAugust 2013 - received this Onyx 50\" fireplace direct from Touchstone. Packed well, double boxed and was shipped across the country without damage. This product is nicely made and has one of the better electric flame patterns and log sets I\'ve seen - far better than Dimplex and other far more expensive competitors. The close-up photo of the flames and logs is the actual representation of this fireplace - looks good. The brightness feature is one reason I got the Touchstone - and do use it changing from day to night. Wish there was a flame \"speed\" function to fine tune the effect. The preset flame speed is good for the flames that vanish up the back, but a bit slow down near the logs and embers. If the flame speed was increased a bit, maybe the vanishing flames would be unrealistically fast. Don\'t know. The remote control pick-up sensor is buried behind the opaque flame backdrop which impacts the remote control\'s operating distance. Most of the time, I have to be 4 or 5 feet from the firebox for the remote to work - sometimes 13 feet away after multiple button pushes. I\'m very handy and had this fireplace far apart multiple times - easy to work on, well laid out and easy to fix, if need be, over the long term. Yes - this fireplace can be modified for recess mounting, as I have done in my home entertainment unit directly under a flat screen, AS LONG AS THE HEATER FAN AND ELEMENTS ARE DISCONNECTED from the circuit board making them inoperative. This way, even if the remote control is accidentally pressed for heat, nothing will happen inside the unit and melt my TV. High-quality, insulated spade connections are used and a wiring diagram is included in the owner\'s manual. If you\'re even slightly handy, it\'s very easy to do.
As always - move, install and work on this fireplace with the glass front removed. It\'s secured by only two easy-access screws. Do not ever lift the fireplace by the glass, there are metal handles on each side of the firebox for lifting.
All-in-all, this is an impressive electric fireplace and a bargain. Looks fantastic directly under my same-width flat screen TV. Shame on me :-)
