Extremely RARE PAPER MACHE RCA VICTOR NIPPER DOG, C. 1920, H 36\", L 34\", D 14\" :
$2600.00

RCAVictor Papier-mâché(whichmeans \"chewed paper\" in French) Nipper mascot dog.Well-known original mascot by Old King Cole Papier-Mache Company ofCanton, Ohio in original paint. (Read at the end of listing the life and times of the actual Nipper)

Beingoffered for sale is this 3ft tall rare Nipper Dog made of Paper MacheThese are very rare, as they were only available to RCA Victordealers andretiringRCA executives. He is in goodcondition for his age and on account of how fragile the material is.Many people restore these but personally I love the way he looks –he looks antique, his face has a soft expression. There is some minor paint chipping some hairline scratches on the back. The nose needs a bit of filling - I was told by a restorer that this was all minimal work and his structure is intact. Overall condition isvery good. I\'ve includedsome close-ups. He\'s a head turner and great conversation piece definitelyone-of-a-kind. I hate to see him go but I am moving and have nowhereto put him as I am down-sizing. I have researched extensivelyand know that this piece was either for a store display or used as agift for retiring RCA executives. I purchased this from a seller inKill Devil Hills, N.C. for and he has been in my living roomever since, never moved again. Please note that we will not pack this item to ship but would be happy to drop off at a UPS store for pack and ship or buyer may pickup on Long island, NY. Please note he is fragile.$75.00 is anapproximationyou can coordinate with theUPS store for your exact cost depending upon your location and packaging.Shipping can be coordinated with a fine arts shipper aswell; whatever you feel works for you.

Nipper\'s Story: who was immortalized as one of the world’s most famous advertisinglogos, was born 1884 in Bristol, England. Nipper was a bull terrier.Well, not a full-blooded bull terrier. In America, we would probablycall Nipper somewhat of a mutt. It should be noted that he seemed tohave inherited the characteristic of this breed. He was named“Nipper” because he had a tendency to nip the back of people’slegs. Nipper was a fighter and never backed down from a fight withanother dog. Francis Barraud painted Nipper looking into aGramophone. On October 4th, 1899 the Gramophone Co. purchased thepainting and Francis received 100 pounds for the painting andcopyrights. The slogan “His Master’s Voice” went along with thedeal. That painting has become one of the world’s most valuabletrademarks and made Nipper the most famous copied dog in the world.

\'His Master\'s Voice\' Painting

Oneof my favorite Nipper stories is the “camel story”. The animalNipper loved to hate was a large toy camel upon which children wereoften placed when they came to have their pictures taken. Someoneoften pushed the camel towards Nipper and teased him. Nipper, offeringhis time, one day took matters into his own hands, rather paws, andripped the toy to shreds. He was found sitting, unconcerned, surrounded by fragments. Hewasn\'teven repentant!

Nipperdied in 1895 at the age of 11. Nipper had a stroke that paralyzed hishindquarters. He was buried under a mulberry tree at No. 77 ClarenceStreet (formerly John Durham’s garden), London, England.

Nipperlives on and his image can be seen with many of the greatest musicalartists of the decades. He has posed with famous opera stars as wellas countless popular artists including the Beatles, Elvis, and allthe celebrated musical artists of the RCA Victor and EMI recordcompanies. He is the embodiment of a musical and consumerentertainment industry of yesterday and today.

Now you can see why people are eager to have this beloved dog to become a part of their family.
