FRANKLIN MINT * 1886 BENZ PATENT MOTORWAGEN 1:8 SCALE. Originally built by Karl Benz in 1885 and sometimes regarded as the first production automobile. Three wheel automobile with rear mounted engine. Propelled by an internal combustion\' 954cc single cylinder, 4 stroke engine with 2/3 hp. @ 250rpm. Later tests proved that the vehicle could almost hit 10 mph. A slow and bumpy ride but you didn\'t have to walk. Great for all the rich ladies and their long dresses back then. Original vehicles contained many new inventions for that time. Constructed of steel tubing and woodwork panels with the first solid rubber tires and steel spoke wheels. There was a toothed rack system that allowed the single unsprung front wheel to pivot and turn the vehicle. Fully elliptic springs were used in the back along with a live axle and chain drive on both sides that put power to the road. At that time the Benz cost 600 imperial German marks, approximately 150 US Dollars. Equivalent to $4086 in 2017. ** This is for the Franklin Mint model in excellent condition as far as I can tell. Seriously striking piece of machinery! Super cool details, including moving steering, rear wheels and belt drive actually turn along with pumping piston action and spinning drivetrain. Belt is not dry rotted. Original FM tag only, no original box, some dust. Beautiful condition. It has been carefully stored for a long while now. Please look carefully at photos. All sides pictured.
