Good condition original French Mle 1874 Gras bayonet. Thisvery interesting and unusual piece has a “clipped” muzzle ring, removedquillon, and a German SG98 Mauser quillback blade. The brass pommel may havealso been slightly ground down to fit a different gun but I have not been ableto ascertain which rifle this was meant for. Blade is unmarked andhas blue metal finishshowing some wear and was sharpened. Guard has gray and brown color. Brasspommel is bright. Wood grips have probably been sanded. Lock button and leafspring function fine. Fitted in a Peruvian Model 1909 Mauser bayonet scabbardthat is identical to the SG 98 except for a serial number on the front stud.Bayonet does not enter scabbard the whole way. Leather shows some wear and hasa few holes and tears. Stitching shows somepulling and added reinforcement. A very intriguing bayonet that warrantsfurther research.
