Originak m40 combat helmet issued to the BGS/Bundes Grenz Schutz - borderguard units of Western Germany.
These are not really commomn helmets,they were made postwar (refurbished ex-Wehrmacht helmets do exist) on the same machinery used during the war, exept that there was only one single run of them made, thus why the all lack production/lot numbers in the skirt, and only have the size stamps of the shell...or sometimes no stamps at all.They were issued to the dreaded BGS- Bundes Grenz Schutz/ Western Germany`s borderguard units that were organised almost like the real military, and equipped as such.
These helmets were made in several versions later on, this is the first type, still retaining the 3-rivet attachment system, and stamped air ventsLater models lack the 3 rivets, and at a given moment, even the airvents were taken out of the production process.
Helmet is in very good condition,no cracks, dings or flaws anywhere.Original factory mid-green paint,not the standard deeper green of the BGS, but rather the one that is typically attributed to BGS units of the BAYERN lander, in Germany.mostly only storage wear.
Leather liner is in excellent condition,retaining all it`s 8 `fingers`, leather is supple.Size marking reads 56 (US size 7) and this one could easely fit up a size 58 (US size 7 1/4)
The shell is marked with the LS logotype and 64 in the rear of the skirt.
The chinstrap is made out of black leather and in good supple condition, it has the buckle and prong type of closure.
This type, really doesn`t run the streets, so take your chance on this one
