Vintage Gibson Melody Maker 1965, all original, withOriginal Gibson “Gator” case.
Serial Number 259979.This is a really coolinstrument that I hate to part with, but have to. It is in great shape for its age with sometypical finish crazing on the front, a couple dings on the edges, a number ofdings in the back, and just a couple dings on the neck. Nearly all the dings are in the finish only. There is a very small dark spot on the neck inthe pictures which is some kind of residue on top of the finish which I’m goingto leave for someone better than I am at getting it off without damaginganything. The neck is more of a medium profile(to my hand a little thicker than some of the thinner profile necks I’ve playedfrom the ‘60’s and ‘70’s). The fretboardand frets are in fantastic shape, it’s been played little and has mostly beenin a closet (in airconditioning)for about 10-15 years. Allhardware and electronics are original as best as I can discern. There is a little bit of finish loss on thetop edges of the head and one deep ding on the face of the head as well asthree of the tuning pegs have the grommet missing. The bridge/tailpiece is cracked on the high Estring side and has bent on this end somewhat as a result, so I haven’t playedit for a while. The original Gibson caseis in very good condition given its age and construction materials. The handle is fully attached and functionalas are the latches. The very bottom of thecase is a little rough as the instrument has been stored with this end on thefloor. The ribbon to flip up thecompartment lid is nearly gone. Theguitar with case was a gift from my Father-in-Law about 15 years ago and now Iam selling them to pay for his care as he is 87 years old.
