Here\'s the story on this Heathkit package.... I purchased it all from a ham operator who\'s fallen on hard times and needed to part with some of his vast collection of vintage equipment. He bought the package some years ago; it was an estate find. Everything was fully assembled except the HR-1680 RECEIVER, which was only 90% assembled. (The gentleman had actually been working on it when he passed.) So, since then...
- The Transmitter and Power Supply have been in active use.
- The Receiver has been \"on a shelf,\" still 90% assembled ... wating for the ol\' \"when I getA Round Tuit.\"
Condition Details - Please Read This Too!....
- THE HX-1681 TRANSMITTER is fully assembled, and I\'m told it was in active use and \"works great.\" (You can see scratches on the main dial from use.)
- THE SPEAKER and POWER SUPPLY, I\'m told, also \"work great.\"
- THE HR-1680 RECEIVER is mostly assembled, but it has one board that only has a few components soldered to it. It comes with an envelope full of components which, as far as I can tell, ARE the correct components for that board. (But I\'m not an expert.) HOWEVER, interestingly enough, all those little components look like they\'ve been un-soldered. Please examine the last2 photos, which are important.They show the envelope of components, along with the front/back of the board they go to. You be the judge whether they were soldered to -- and then un-soldered from -- the board at some point. Very interesting. IN ANY CASE, YOU HAVE ALL THE ASSEMBLY MANUALS, SO HAVE AT IT!
- The TRANSMITTER and RECEIVER both have unattached lids; the little \"body screws\" are missing. (See photo.) But they appear to require standard sheet metal screws.
- Somebody e-mailed me and said that the photos clearly show \"smoke damage.\" No, there is no smoke damage. What you\'re seeing in the photos is dust. Especially inside the HR-1680 ... it looks like it sat open on a shelf for a long time, and I don\'t want to stick a vacuum cleaner nozzle down around those little parts. I\'ll let you (the expert) clean/dust it properly.
- THIS OUTFIT DOES COME FROM A TOBACCO-SMOKING ENVIRONMENT, UNFORTUNATELY. So there is some residual odor of tobacco on thepaper manuals.
