Homer Ledford Dulcimer #1858 made in 1970 Vintage Handmade Kentucky Folk Art:
$625.00

Up for offer we have an absolutely beautiful vintage Homer C. Ledford Appalachian mountain dulcimer, signed and numbered. This is dulcimer #1858 by Homer and was built in 1970 according to his online dulcimer listing. I believe that the soundboard is made of butternut and the fretboard, sides, scroll, tailpiece, and back are all walnut. The tuning pegs are hand carved from rosewood. This instrument was constructed using Homer\'s original scale, which consisted of a shorter first fret than the second (see images of the fretboard). This is also a great example of Homer\'s earlier work as a whole, with diamond shaped sound holes, staple frets, and three strings. The intonation is nearly spot on and plays perfectly! This is an all original, fully functioning, and playable instrument. There are no cracks on the dulcimer anywhere that I can find, but there are some minor condition issues:1. There is a bit of scratching and rubbing on the finish. I\'ve tried to show this in the photos, but it is hard to see. The worst of it can be seen on the back of the dulcimer. It\'s as if the previous owner sat it on a table when they played it. There are a few very minor scratches in the finish on the soundboard that appear to be made from picks, but they are barely noticeable. 2. There are a couple of spots that have a few minor dings. The main spot is the bottom edge of the right side of the soundboard. I have posted an image of this area. There is also a ding on the scroll, I have posted an image of this as well.Other notes:1. The black spot on the top left portion of the soundboard is NOT a defect. It is a dark spot on the wood. Completely natural and inherent to the piece.2. There is a large dark spot on the back of the dulcimer. This appears to also be a natural dark spot in the wood as it is underneath the finish and not on top of it. I am not the original owner of the piece so I cannot be 100% sure. I am comfortable going with this opinion based on what I can observe close up. I have posted an image of this as well, so you can be the judge. This dulcimer plays and sounds absolutely amazing! I have done my very best to describe this wonderful instrument and show it the best I can in the images. If you have any questions or would like any additional photos please let me know prior to placing your offer. Thank you!
