This PASGT Kevlar helmet is an improvement over the classic 1942-1989 M-1 \"steel pot\" combat helmet which was the iconic image of the US GI for over 45 years. The different camo covers (woodland, chocolate chip, desert, etc) could be exchanged depending on the camo type the local terrain required. It was made in the USA.

The roots of this classic 1980s through early Afghanistan (Enduring Freedom) camouflage design dates back to early WWII when the US Marines (\"frog skin\") and Army were experimenting with combat uniform camouflage designs that could be used in desert regions or on islands that were primarily sand. The Army came up with light weight cotton khaki uniforms during WWII as well as a number of camouflage designs including modified Mitchell and ERDL in the late 1940s. Then the designs were shelved..... Those latter two designs surfaced during the Vietnam War when there was no camouflage uniform for forested or jungle environments. Not much thought was given to desert uniforms at that time!

After the Vietnam War ended the Marines and Army decided to un-shelve some of those other old concepts from WWII and the late 1940s because the smart money indicated the next war could be in a desert area .. i.e. the Middle East.

Beginning around 1981 the last Vietnam era ERDL type uniforms began to be replaced by newer Woodland (forest), 6 Color \"Chocolate Chip\" camouflage (desert) design in field units and by the end of 1982 these newer uniform types were becoming standard issue along with the OG 107 utility uniform. This 3 color desert design came along in the late 1980s. Both desert designs were used in the 1st Gulf War.

Note: This Type II, 50/50 cotton/nylon blend twill PASGT vest carrier/cover is in absolutely New in Package \"Brand New\" condition, there are no real flaws I could see... I did not remove it from the package! There is no real evidence of at all soiling from storage (in a military trunk) or otherwise! The manufacturer\'s label is in Excellent, unwashed condition (photo 2) and is very readable as is the care label. Contract date is 1997 (see photo 2). The first two photos are with flash - the rest are without flash.
