Hunter Bandit 2000A 80-10 Meter Amateur Linear Amplifier - Here is a very nice, fully operational \'legal limit\' linear amplifier. The Hunter Bandit was originally designed to compliment the Collins \'S\' Line, using the same case and color scheme. It lives up to the power potential never fully realized by the beautiful Collins 30L-1 amplifier. In place of the Collins amp\'s (4) 811 tubes, the Bandit utilizes (4) 572 tubes. The Collins 30L-1 can also utilize the 572 but doesn\'t supply enough plate voltage to fully benefit from the substitution. The Bandit has a beefy plate transformer that providessufficient power to fully exploit the output potential of the 572 series tubes. I had both amplifiers side by side and found the Bandit to be superior to the excellent 30L-1.
This example is in very good condition with the exception of a few minor scratches and scuffs (SEE PHOTOS). The meters, knobs, feet and front panel are very good (SEE PHOTOS). This unit has also been upgraded with an additional fan on the right hand side to assist the internal fans in moving as much air as possible over the horizontally oriented 572\'s (SEE PHOTOS). This additional fan was suggested by the manufacturer and isthoroughly RF-proofed withshielded wire and bypass capacitors.The original owner was a Grumman Aerospace engineer who upgraded the power supply with a massive commercial AC line filter mounted on the back, improved internalshielding and scope connections(SEE PHOTOS). He lived in a neighborhood with tightly spaced homes so his goal was to eliminate any potential sources of RFI. The mods were beautifully executed (SEE PHOTOS).
This is an extremely quiet, clean operating and potent amplifier. My dummy load is rated for 1-KW and this amp did that with with minimal drive power on the 120-Volt power configuration. The matched tubes are marked as being made in the USA and have only had light use(SEE PHOTOS). The construction and components used in this amp are first rate (SEE PHOTOS). I can\'t predict the ultimate lifespan of the electrolytic capacitors and other perishable components but they are still performing very well.
This is a VERY heavy item.The massive AC filter adds several pounds to the shipping weight. There is an additional handling charge of $25.00 over and above shipping to cover protective packing and extra measures to protect the tubes for separate shipment. I am open to pickup if someone is in the NY metro area and would be able to drive to Long Island. I will refund the handling charge and shipping cost to such a buyer after it is picked up. Please also keep in mind that automobile travel to Long Island involves bridge and/or tunnel tolls.
NOTE: This is a tube-type electronic device employing very high, potentially dangerous voltages on internal components. It is suggested that repairs and/or adjustments be carried out with extreme caution by, or under the supervision of a qualified technician. The removal of the amp from the cabinet requires the disconnection of theauxiliaryfan and line filter. This is not a difficultprocedurebut is not discussed in the manual. When the amp is shipped the tubes will be removed and the buyer will have to install the tubes and reconnect the fan and line filter.
