This F725 Front Mower has the replacement engine for this model tractor. The original engine blew up and a new exact replacement engine from Deere cost $3200. The original 590 engine is rated at 20 HP by John Deere and 18 HP by Kawasaki. The replacement Kawasaki FD731 engine is rated at 26 HP by Kawasaki. When I replaced the engine I looked at Small Engine Warehouse and they stated that the FD731 was the exact replacement. The crankshaft length and size is the same as the original and the mounting holes in the frame are the same. Everything else is on the the opposite side of the machine. I have been using this mower for about 2 years and have put around 50 hours on the hourmeter since I installed the 731 engine. The frame, body and hydraulic system has 1900+ hours. The deck was replaced about 4 years ago and operates fine. When I replaced the deck, I put a new plastic floor pan and one of the fenders. Not long after, I backed into the left side of the floor and broke off the corner. The fuel pump that came on the engine didn\'t put enough fuel the carb and I replaced it with and electric pump.. When the ignition is turned on the fuel pump is running and fuel is at the carb. I also installed a manual choke, since this engine uses one cable for the throttle and one for the choke. I have just changed the oil. oil filter, transaxle oil, and transaxle filter, greased the tractor and deck and sharpened the blades. With this higher horsepower engine, bogging is not a problem. It will cut tall and thick grass easy without engine stall. The deck is the 54 inch three blade deck that is driven by a belt from the clutch on the motor to a gear box mounted on the frame of the tractor, then thru a driveshaft to a gearbox on the deck that drives a belt that pulls the three blades.
