A city is a place where a lot of people live, work, play, and go to school.So JA classroom volunteers help students build a city!
The students constructpaper buildings, map out a city, write newspaper articles, plan their ownrestaurants, and examine why banks are important.
Our City considers economic development, local businesses, and careeropportunities.
Among the many resourcescontained in the Our City program kit, a “City Zones” posterillustrates different aspects of a city.

JA Our City introducesstudents to the intersection of financial literacy and third-grade socialstudies learning objectives,
including the characteristics of cities and howpeople and businesses in cities manage their money.Following participation in the program, students will be able to:
- Provide practical information about the zones found within a city.
- Examine the importance of money to a city, including paying taxes, and how people use different methods to pay for goods and services.
- Describe the contributions of financial institutions to a city and how they help businesses and people achieve their economic goals.
- Develop an understanding that entrepreneurs promote a healthy economy within a city.
- Compare news formats and examine their importance to the financial well-being of a city.
