Root and Van Dervoort Mfg. Co. was one of the most famous and desirable gas engine manufacturers during the first part of the 19th century. Today they are very rare and prized by collectors.Original advertising (outside of magazines) for R&V engines is getting harder to find and if you are fortunate enough to locate a piece, you\'d better be prepared to pay top dollar for it!

This sign was created by a local artisan, who has made a few hundred reverse glass signs over the years (most with NO DUPLICATES! All different companies, all different products). I will be listing a few of his signs at a time for sale, as my schedule permits. The signs were all made using antique or vintage frames and glass. Depending on the desired results,both conventional and contemporary methods were employed when making these signs, including hand lettering & outlining, gold & silver leafing, decals, enamel background, mirroring, silk screening, etc. The result is a very traditional look that will display perfectly next to your original antique and vintage pieces!
Both the frame and glass are original antique pieces and do show signs of their age. The glass may have the desirable and traditional waves and bubbles in it, that you find with any antique glass. The frame is solid wood construction. There may be several nicks, scratches and cracks in the frame, which help to give it character.
