FABULOUS RE-ISSUE BY MTH IN THE1990’s

GeorgeSirus was a serious collector of Standard Gauge Trains in the early 1960’s, andamassed a very impressive collection of many fine and rare items. He alsoformed a partnership with Art Varney in the early 70’s, and created someextraordinarily accurate reproductions of several of the rarest train sets ofthe classic era. I recently acquired George’s nearly 50 year plus collection,and many of these great items will be offered for sale in the upcoming months.There will be some Sirus-Varney sets, as well as many fine and unusual originalitems.

Thisoffering is a LIONEL Dark State Green 408E re-issue by MTH with Bild-A-Locomotors. This locomotive, which runs well, has most likely only been test run.It is somewhat unique in that it is painted in the DARKER GREEN color that isfound of the roofs of Lionel State cars! There is one ORIGINAL 408E known toexist in this configuration, and it is very striking. It would make animpressive addition to a 4 car State set. The paint, as can be seen in thephotographs, has the characteristic “orange peel” effect that characterizedoriginal Lionel products from this period. Most importantly, the name platessay “LIONEL” and not MTH, which makes it far more desirable even as a re-issue.
