COMES IN ORIGINAL 1930\'S BOX FROM BULLOCKS ON WILSHIRE BLVD. IN BEVERLY HILLS“The name Rebecca appears in several lists of the Portrait Dolls. The costume on this doll looks remarkably similar to one worn by Joan Fontaine in the 1940 film adaptation of Daphne DuMaurier’s novel “Rebecca.”
(Ref., Antique Doll Collector, June 2002, Vol. 5, No. 5, pg. 39) She is also known as Melanie from the 1930 film adaptation of Margaret Mitchell’s novel, “Gone With the Wind”.I’ve had numerous portraits such as Princess Flavia, Degas Ballerina, and Judy Garland (Meet me in St. Louis) but this one is my favorite.
Their hand painted faces distinguishes the portrait dolls.
“A glamorized fuller mouth, dramatic highly arched feathered eyebrows, shadowing under the brows, plus brown and blue liner. Dark brown hand painted lashes accent the outer eye. The sleep eyelids are painted a matte gray, blue or brown with a heavy black liner above the mohair lashes.”
Wendy Ann’s transformation is further enhanced by fabric covered buttons sewn into the bodice of her gown to add adult curves to her preteen figure.
Especially styled auburn mohair wig deeply embellished with flowers.“The design and quality of the hats worn by Madame Alexander dolls set them apart from dolls from any other doll company. The pink and red fabric flowers trimming the dress and hat coordinate perfectly with the floral ribbon around her waist.”
Her pleated, crepe, tier gown is embellished with scalloped, Belgium Val Lace. Rebecca has a sweet heart neckline with flounce. A flowered, lace overlay covers her bodice & torso. Her tight waistline is enhanced with vibrant, wide, rose print, embroidered ribbon with streamers in the rear! Her waistline is embellished with a vibrant cabbage rose corsage (a total of 4 cabbage roses & lily of the valley flowers)! The back of the gown has a zipper closure. The gown has a silk, wrist, tie ribbon.Her muslin petticoat has a wide flounce trimmed in Belgium Val lace. It has a silk, ribbon closure in the rear. Her matching panties have wide, Belgium Val lace trim with silk, ribbon closure as well.STUNNING, stiff horsehair bonnet with green velvet streamers and abundant cabbage roses. There are too many to count!Thick, mohair, WAVY, tightly curled wig!Her cloth shoes are excellent with heels attached.Excellent complexion with vibrant cheek, palm, and knee coloring. Her hazel, glassine eyes are clear! No yellow in the whites of her eyes! Full upper lashes with ultra, deep cheek coloring!
What a stunning doll she makes with her cabbage rose bouquet, waistline cabbage rose corsage, and horsehair hat filled with abundant cabbage roses!Her “Bullocks” Box, with lid, is sturdy with original tissue inside!
