Up for sale is a Nakamichi 410 preamplifier in excellent condition, operationally and cosmetically.Major features: front panel controls include rotary bass and treble controls, a headphone jack, dedicated selector buttons for tuner, aux 1, aux 2, phono, tape monitor, tone defeat, mono, and subsonic filter, and an on/off power switch. The illumination LED for the power is not working, though the switch and relay operate normally. Also present are a contour rotary switch - a continuously variable loudness control - and concentric volume and balance controls.The rear panel has a phono input sensitivity switch, inputs for phono, aux 1, aux 2, tuner, and the tape in and out jacks, which can also be used for additional high level inputs such as CD, DVR, video, etc., and the pre-out jacks for the power amplifier. 2 AC outlets are also provided, as is a voltage selector.I tested all inputs, outputs, and switches, except for the phono (did not have a turntable handy.) Input and outputs are OK, and the phono appears to have normal output as well (tested with white noise.) The unit is quiet, warm, detailed, and very musical. See pictures for a technical specification sheet. The unit uses a toroidal power transformer. There is some slight oxidation/scratchiness in the volume control (mostly at the 0 db position) which I did not service . . . though it is invariably an easy bit of maintenance. It does not affect the operation of the control itself. As mentioned above, the illumination led for the on/off power switch is out, though the switch itself (and the relay) work normally. Cosmetically, the case is in excellent condition, with a few minor blemishes. There are no dents, dings, bent metal, or missing paint. The front panel is in near-mint condition, with all the original knobs and switches and the lettering intact. A high quality photocopy of the manual is included.
