Here is a ANTIQUE NAVAJO OPEN FIELD RUG FROM ABOUT 1925 (1920-1935), HAND WOVEN WITH RESERVATION HAND SPUN, CARDED AND DYED WOOLS. This blanket is hand woven from hand spun and hand carded beautiful CHURRO Sheep Wools - the shades of black/dark grey, grey and white, are made from hand spun and carded natural Merino Sheep Wools. The red and orange wools are hand dyed wools with Aniline Dyes (obtained form the Trading Posts of the time). Note the very finely woven wools which still have luster and sheen - see the close up pics of the wool! This weaving has beautiful Lazy Lines and amazing looking colors !
The size of this textile is approximately 46\" X 36\",with a hand spunwool warp of about 8-9 (fine hand carded warp), and a hand spun Wool Weft of about 28-32 (fine weave - a finely woven yet very durable weave).Abeautifully designed and well constructed piece of Native America!CONDITION - GOOD For Age, an Antique Weaving withsomewear and tear (Please see all pics!): The wools within this rug are in great condition (still have plenty of luster and sheen), there are NO Notable Stains, there is a 1\" hole at border of white and red near a corner, there is some fading to one side (see the first few pics/one side has fade areas), andthere is some fraying to one corner/edge, as well as a few small frays within the white open field (see pics). The End Selvage Cords are 100 % present, a braid of two fine black 2-ply wool yarns. The Side Selvage Cords are about 90% intact present with no fraying and minor loss near one corner. The corners are in good/fair condition, with very minor wear to selvage at corners, and the 3/4 corner ties are present (see pics for corners).
THIS IS A CLASSIC NAVAJO ANTIQUE WEAVING WHICH DISPLAYS WELL AS A WALL HANGER OR ON A TABLE TOP.
