I got it new and have only tested it to make sure all of the functions were operational. The only thing actually used were the alkaline battery set to test it. The detector has never seen dirt! Guys these detectors are really sensitive. I have had and tested all the military mine/metal detectors (Garrett, Minelab, and Vallon) and the Vallon beat them hands down and the Vallon also has much more adjustability. It also folds down into a very compact little package that will fit in any backpack and then you can hike in anywhere with it.(Approx. 14.6\" x 5.51\" x 2.76\")See the many Included PICS to see the condition yourself. These kits cost Uncle Sam nearly 4k each! Try and find any other new waterproof Pulse Induction metal detector for this cheap!

Vallon VMC1 Overview
The Vallon VMC1 (aka Gizmo, Beachcomber, Vallon) is an extremely lightweight, compact one-piece pulse induction metal detector that offers the highest level of detection performance. Operators can easily transport and deploy the detector in less than 20 seconds for use during Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) and mine clearance operations. The VMC1 is highly effective at detecting metallic and low-metallic IED components and mines. The detector’s ergonomic design and simple to use interface provides operators with an ease of use unparalleled by other metal detectors. The VMC1 provides operators with a clear audio, LED, and/or tactile alerts to indicate the presence of a potential threat. The VMC1 also has an automatic/adjustable ground balance, pinpoint mode, adjustable sensitivity, and an input for firmware upgrades to address current and evolving threats.
Metal Detection (MD)
The VMC1 is very sensitive, and allows operators to detect the most challenging metallic and low-metallic IED components as well as Anti-Tank (AT) and Anti-Personnel (AP) mines, including the PMA-3 and M-14. The VMC1 utilizes an extremely effective pulse induction detection approach to find buried and visually obscured metal objects in the most challenging soil conditions – including mineralized soil. Mineralized soil can greatly reduce the performance or even render continuous wave metal detectors useless – unlike with the VMC1’s pulse induction MD. Furthermore, the VMC1’s Mineralized Mode has an automatic soil compensation feature as well as a manual compensation feature to allow operators to further adapt the detector to soil conditions anywhere in the world. The VMC1 is also capable of detecting small metal objects in the vicinity of large metal objects because it is a dynamic detector. In other words, the detector head must be in motion to detect metal. An operator can easily activate the pinpoint feature which allows them to accurately locate the center of a metal object while the detector is held stationary.
ECM & Detector Compatibility
The VMC1 operates with limited interference in the presence of a variety of man-portable and vehicle mounted Electronic Counter Measures (ECM) or Counter-Radio Controlled IED Electronic Warfare (CREW) systems. The VMC1 also has a manual and auto channel adjustment which allows operators to operate more than one detector with minimal separation distance.
Operationally Proven
The VMC1 was extensively tested, fielded, and operationally proven in the harshest and most demanding military and humanitarian environments. The US Department of Defense (DoD) selected the VMC1 to fulfill a requirement for a more effective compact, handheld IED/mine metal detector to support dismounted operations in Afghanistan. In addition to the US military, the VMC1 is currently used by US Coalition partners participating in the DoD’s Foreign Military Sale (FMS) program, and various humanitarian demining efforts.
