Here’s your chance to own a unique and very hard to find unused / New Old Stock vintage 1965 ski bike that was featured in the Beatles movie “Help!” Yes, this is the SlalomLenkungSchobob ski bike that was featured in the movie scene that was shot in Switzerland. During this scene the song \"Ticket To Ride\" is playing and George Harrison is riding an example of the Schobob along side Ringo Starr. I have including a picture from the movie showing George Harrison riding a Schobob.
What make this ski bike so cool is the styling. It looks like a chopper motorcycle from the swooped back “ape hanging” handle bars to the sloped back style of the chrome frame. To top off the cycle look is the black & red motor cycle styled seat. What an awesome look!! But what about the skis?? These are stellar looking knock out black deck skis that are reminiscent of the early 1960\'s downhill skis. They totally rock!!! The front ski is marked with the maker’s mark and logo “Slalom Lenkung.” The back ski gently curves upward for feet placement and is marked “Made In West-Germany” and the most excellent name “Schobob.”
From the front ski, chopper styled handles bars and chrome frame, to the back ski that curves up allowing you to easily place your feet above the ground and out of the way, this is one great piece of German engineering!! The chrome frame slopes gently back allowing for a comfortable ride. Speaking of comfortable, the seat is built for extreme comfort. The handlebars/fork section is well engineered providing ease of steering and maneuvering of the Schobob. The fork/steering assembly from the top down includes: a chrome round top screw adjuster that permits adjustment and holds the whole steering assembly in place, a rubber bushing for tension and shock absorber like performance is part of the assembly, attached from the fork assembly to the back of front ski is a rubber piece that assists in steering.
The New Old Stock Schobob was found in it’s original cardboard shipping box in Western Colorado. The box had no markings on it whatsoever so it wasn’t worth saving. The overall condition of the Schobob is excellent. There are some minor nicks on the black decking of the skis and the chrome has some very, very minor pitting in some places from over 50 years of minor humidity in Western Colorado. The seat is in perfect shape. The off white plastic grips are in stellar shape and are marked “Magura.” The bottom of the skis are yellow and the metal edges do show some minor rust, so they could use a tune-up before hitting the slopes. The ski bike is complete and fully functional! Overall a real gem!!
The overall dimensions of the assembled Schobob is 72 inches long, 28 inches tall and 21.5 inches wide. Weight: 18 pounds. The front fork/steering assembly can be easily disassembled to reduce the size of the shipping box. Please check out all photos to verify condition before offerding.
