This sale offers a Darice doll that is dressed in the habit worn by a School Sister of Notre Dame. This congregation was founded in Bavaria by Caroline Gerhardinger and she took the religious name of Mary Theresa of Jesus. She was a gifted educator and wanted to establish schools for the education of the poor. In 1847 she and five other Sisters came to America and established elementary, secondary and post-secondary schools here. On Nov. 17, 1985, she was declared \"Blessed\" by Pope John Paul II.
This doll is dressed in the original habit which was modified in 1963. Her black habit includes the seven decade rosary which depicts the Seven Joys of Mary.
The doll has movable arms, legs and head. The head has painted features and beautiful blue eyes that do not close. A white metal stand is included.
All of the doll\'s clothing was made by this seller who has dressed dolls in handmade habits of various congregations.
