You\'ll be hard pressed to find a nicer example of this rare beauty; An absolutely stunning 1937 Silver model 149 table top tube radio. Nicknamed \"Cele\", and manufactured out of the mysterious Plant \'C\' (yellow tag) in Chicago, it features a gorgeous American Walnut cabinet, unique oval shape, colorful back lit dial, great Art Deco appeal and excellent performance.

Cabinet:TheAmerican Walnut cabinet is simply stunning. Beautiful wood grain flowsthroughout the entire set. With it\'s attractive curves, grooved pinstripe inlays and great Art Deco appeal it is easy to see why this radio is one of Silver\'s most highly desirable sets among collectors. A large intricate cut grill, that flows with the shape of the cabinet, not only looks great but allows for optimal sound from the speaker. Jet black trim and Silver\'s shiny name plate finish the cabinet off with the utmost elegance and class. The set also includes its original wood back. This rare beauty is sure to be the highlight of any room in the home or office you choose to display it in.

Dial &Knobs:The bright back lit dial is quite attractive. When powered on two pilot lights illuminate the dial with a warm orange glow. The top of the dial features the AM broadcast band and the center displays the shortwave scale in red. Take note to the finest of details of this set such as the dial pointer which is black but the tip is gold for easy viewing against the black AM scale. All letters and numbers are legible and show very little signs of wear. All three knobs are in perfect shape and control on/off & volume, tuning and band switch.

Grill Cloth: The 1930’s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuringagolden wheat color with a 3D diamond design. This grill cloth can also be purchased separately on our other sales

Chassis: All tubes in the 5 tube (including ballast) chassis were testedwith any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors werechecked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced orre-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimalperformance. Using the included copper line antenna, the radio plays very well. I\'m able to pick up all my local stations across the AM broadcast band with great tone and plenty of volume. I am also able to pick up a couple shortwave stations, especially at night.

The Cabinet’s Finish and Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinetsundergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the naturalbeauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. Weachieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sandthe cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, andblemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We makesure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detractfrom the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers areapplied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers andtoners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished inthe factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through aprofessional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room.Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allowsthe lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sandingfollows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Ozglaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, thefinal outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster&shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready toproudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office.
