Old German Wanderstock Hiking Walking Cane Stick Medals Badges Folk Art Orden:
$33.99

Selling a brightly decorated old German wander-stock / hiking stick / walking cane which is decorated with 8 medallions. This cane is from the mid 1950s. There are opaque paint detailed aluminum relief (raised design) medals, others with factory printed paper labels with aluminum framing and hand carving at the top of the cane. Length is approximately 34 3/4\". It was the general custom to buy the stag head medal as the commemoration of the first place visited with the new hiking stick and to mount it as the first badge at the top of the cane. This handsome hiking cane has hand carving as the first decoration at the top of the cane. This striking wanderstock has the traditional sharp pointed metal tip for good traction. The custom was that when a German decided to go touring in the late 1800\'s through the 1980s, they bought a sturdy hiking cane, mostly commercially made in Germany. At every newly visited alp, tourist attraction, zoo, botanical garden, new country, historical sight or village, the hiker bought a medallion with the name of the town and some sort of illustration. This custom of using the medals on the cane commemorated the places which the hiker visited in the order in which he visited them. After the person became too old to hike, the cane was kept as a fond memento of more active times. Families often held on to these wanderstock as mementos of long gone relatives. Now the owner of this treasured wanderstock is long deceased and the family is selling off their things to finance a move to the Western part of Germany. Condition of the wanderstock is excellent , ready to use, display, or in case of home invasion, run the miscreant through with the sharp point and pin him to the wall. In the unfortunate event of the latter case, brew cup of tea, drink tea to steady your nerves, take deep breath and THEN dial 911 to report the unfortunate passing of the monster who invaded your home attempting to do you harm. Saves having to attend the trial and watch a taxpayer paid bleeding heart lawyer claim the monster who invaded your home was nothing but a misunderstood \"youth\". But, back to more pleasant topics! Pick up your wanderstock in Pompton Plains or will ship via parcel post at buyer\'s expense. This handsome wanderstock is ready to go hiking with you immediately.
