Oldest Known Cook Hit Miss Gas Engine Mfg\'d Delaware Ohio 3hp Here is a very nice vertical 3 horse power COOK hit miss gas engine. As far as I know this is the oldest, and only known Cook of this style.I have a letter from 1977 to the current owner at that time Harold Rafferty, from Donald Cook, the son of Arthur G Cook Senior, second son of Charles Cook, the founder of Cook Motor Company. In part of the letter it states that:
\"The first few Cook engines were single overhead valves with external cam shafts. Then came the \"L\" head. Only the very early engines were \"L\" head. Therefore your beauty is undoubtedly older than any of the overhead valve models with enclosed cam shafts.\"
This letter, and some other paperwork and copy\'s of photos is also included in the sale, that goes with the engine.
If you are into COOK engines this one is for you! I have been collectiong engines for 50 year and have travelled all across this country, and have never seen another like it. It will make a great addition to your collection. I have set a resonable reserve. Don\'t miss out on a great engine.
I haven\'t run the motor in a few years. The gas tank may need to be drained and flushed. I included many photos to show its condition. The water jacket was repaired many years ago. The flywheels turn with no run out, or wobble. It has always been a smooth runner.
