A very impressive work, it was made to be used in rituals involving an altar. The blade is exclusively symbolic, with no individual person\'s name appearing there. Only symbols, crests and geometric patterns (and the maker\'s marking). This Sword is in very good vintage condition with only some normal expected minor wear of the years (it is well over 100 years old). The scabbard has some surface corrosion and oxidation, but it isn\'t that serious. The sword with its ornate blade is wonderful. The item really glistens. The blade features a complex composition consisting of geometric patterns (inspired by Freemasonry) and mystifying crests and symbols. Etched on the ornate blade is \"Franklin Senate \". \"Franklin\" obviously refers to the lodge to which this sword\' once belonged. The term \"Senate\" probably represents the Militaristic Essenic equivalent of the Knights Templar\'s \"Commanderies\". The other side includes the etched initials of the order (KAEO). And we should point out that these are beautifully rendered. The central-crest between the sword\'s hand-guard features a quote in Latin: \"OMNE TRINUM PERFECTUM\" on a Military Shield, encased within a Middle-Eastern Half-Moon Symbol. Surrounding this Biblical Shield are the Initials of the Order. Seperated on the guard into two sections, \"KA\" is on one end, while \"EO\" appears at the other. The back-side of the hand-guard features the mystical \"Circle-of-Life\" which repeats the initials: \"KAEO\", but this time, with the \"E\' for \"Essenic\" facing top, and the \"K\" (Knights) is central. The scabbard is austere in the ancient military tradition. The all metal grip has a wonderful spiral design. This is a captivating antique relic! A fine showpiece on any wall! While there is a monumental availability of swords from groups such as the Knights of Pythias, Odd Fellows, Knights of Columbus, Knights of the Golden Eagle, and all the Masonic Groups (Knights Templar etc.), THE SWORDS OF THE ESSENES ARE RELATIVELY RARE! This classic item belonged to a Mystical Christian Order that remains quite obscured by history. Yet the Historical Value of this particular Group and their Regalia is Immensely Important. There is much compelling history to be recalled. After all the bloodshed caused by the Civil War, citizens desired a reconciliation between the states. They expressed the need for a harmonious existence that would be dependent on Brotherly Love, and often also on strong Spiritual Values based on Biblical traditions and teachings. Thus, the void was filled by the creation of numerous Fraternal Societies. As Freemasonry was by far, the oldest benevolent and esoteric-oriented organization, their ideals and spirit had given birth to other groups, such as “The Knights of Pythias” and “The Woodmen of America”. The Ancient Philosophical tenants of the Masons also inspired the “Knights Of The Ancient Essenic Order”. Founded in Washington State in the year 1888, the “Essenic Order” functioned as a spiritual, social and benevolent group. They attempted to adopt the curious Esoteric Spiritual-Humanistic Philosophies of the Ancient Ascetic Biblical Jewish Sect, known as the Essenes. In existence from around the 2nd Century B.C. to the end of the 1st Century A.D., the secretive Essenes practiced a lifestyle based upon Asceticism, Brotherhood and a Most Personal and Unique Devotion to God. They lived in Monastic type Communities as they built and toiled the soil by the hard labour of their own hands. The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls has since shed much light on this unique and mysterious group, even if much of the information is highly controversial. Many historians and theologians speculate on the possibility that Jesus himself, might well have been a member of the Essenes, or at the very least, might have been influenced by their teachings. Much of ancient Essene philosophy had been incorporated into Masonic thought. This does not seem to hold true for most other Fraternal Orders. However, when the American Essenes organized in 1888, they had intended to continue this great Inspirational and Exclusive Biblical Legacy. Ironically, their formation was challenged by many \"official\" Churches. Exactly how much these Essenic Fraternal Brothers had in common with their Biblical forbearers, we will perhaps never know.
