For sale is a superb example of what we believe is an 19th-century Eastern Woodlands Native American war club with brass tack pattern work and a square cut nail center strike. The handle contains a carved bird effigy figure. All in an original rich age oxidized patina to the surface 

The club is carved and made from a burled hardwood knob that forms the head of the club. We are unsure of the wood species. Perhaps burled maple or oak. 

This piece came out of the personal collection of TV actress, Model and Publisher Jill Alden who was a prominent collector of Native American items both contemporary and antique. She is the author of a wonderful book on contemporary Native American beadwork.  We have included a picture of her published book.
