Photo: Rare New View: White Star Line\'s RMS Majestic, NY, 1903:
$7.99

-The RMS Majestic, New York, 1903- A wonderful newly discovered view of the The RMS Majestic, built in 1890 at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, for the White Star Line.Majestic won the Blue Riband for the fastest Transatlantic Run on August 5, 1891 with an average speed of 20.1 knots but held the honor for only two weeks when her sister ship, the Teutonic completed a crossing on August 19 with a speed of 20.35 knots. In 1895, the Majestic was assigned a new captain, an up-and-coming officer named Edward John Smith, who years later would gain lasting fame as the captain of the Titanic. When the Olympic went online in 1911, the older Majestic was removed from regular service, and designated as a reserve ship, offering her time at Birkenhead\'s offerston Dock but when the Titanic met her fate in April, 1912, Majestic was pressed back into service, filling the hole in the transatlantic schedule.
She was scrapped in 1914 at the Thomas Ward yard at Morecambe and it’s interesting to note some of the still-beautiful interior wood-work was saved and used in the offices of the Ward company.A unique & excellent view back well over a century at the very beginning of the Era Of The Great Superliners showing the ship backing out from her New York Pier.
