To the1000’s of amateur radio operators around the world, this book needs nointroduction. To those non “Hams” or novice operators, this 1926 Handbook was AManual of Amateur Short-Wave Radiotelegraphic Communication. It was written byFrancis Edward Handy, Communications Manager, American Radio Relay League. TheAmerican Radio Relay League had only come into existence 12 years before thisbook was published. The League was founded in April 1914 by Hiram Percy Maximof Hartford, CT. His father was the famous Sir Henry Stevens Maxim, inventor ofthe Maxim Machine Gun. The Forward says the Handbook was written to be of useto the beginner as well as the experienced brass-pounder. Every League membershould be interested in some of the matter contained in the pages.

As a kid inthe early 1960’s, I spent time practicing Morse Code with my father who was inthe Signal Corps in WWII. He grow up with the only “Ham” operator in the townand I would frequently visit to see who/how far away he could connect. QRA? QRAQRB? QRB I became an electrical engineer in part due to my fascination withshort wave radio. Although never getting my Amateur License, I held an FCCGeneral Radiotelephone Operators License over 10 years. Once I started reading the book, I couldn’tput it down. It was like a trip down memory lane for early electricity and radioconcepts.

This book isin fair condition as pictured. It measures 9 1/2\" X 7\". The spine is intact but the front/rear coversare taped. There is a water spot on the first several pages but it disappears bypages 11-12. Could be the only original one you’ll ever see. Buy them when youfind them.
