What you are offerding on is a rare 1948 model 35 from Philadelphia\'s Ocean City Mfg. Co. and was originally called the \"Wanita\" model, It is is one of 6 designs to be named a Wanita. Ocean City changed the design a bit and in 1948 , they named the Wanita the \"No. 35 and No. 36\". These were the \"Deluxe\" version with the round line guide. The spool is solid with no more holes to assist in line drying, and the permanent click/pawl was replaced with a new permanent silent drag. The crank is made from Ivorine. Ivorine is an unusual type of plastic made from formaldehyde and casein protein extracted from milk. It has very nicely cast aluminum reel plates and pillars with a brass center pin. The spool is precision stamped aluminum. The reel features a round chrome plated metal line guide (some wear on the guide - see photos) and a \"silent drag\" mechanism. Instead of a click/pawl the center pin has a large spring which permits the spool to move in or out when thumb pressure is applied. It doesn\'t make the familiar clicking sound but does the job just the same. Sorry, right hand wind only. This reel was sandblasted and chemically stripped to bare metal to remove old and highly worn paint. (Please reference the before picture.) It was then primed and enamel coated to its original flat black appearance. A special paint was hand applied to provide a \'one of a kind\' hammered metal emerald colored surface to the cranking plate of the spool. Hopefully this \"Wanita\" deserves a special place in your vintage fly fishing reel collection.
The reel was thoroughly inspected to confirm components operate as intended. All surfaces, except the foot plate, were primed and repainted. The reel has been lubricated and is ready for its new home.
