This Talking Stick measures 34\" in length and the Horse Head measures 4\". The Stick is most likely Burl Root given its winding Shape and if you were able to straighten it out it would certainly measure over 45\" total. It was painted Black but you can see the Natural Wood where the Paint has worn off in spots due to heavy age usage from Handling. Expected Age Cracks but primarily Surface Only - in Very Solid, Sturdy Original Condition. A small chip happened recently at side of the Horse\'s Mouth exposing lighter Wood underneath - See 1st photo. ****** NOTE: One or Two of the Photos make this Artifact look Shiny - BUT It was only due to the Lighting as this is NOT Shiny and had No Shellac Finish ******* The Horse Head Effigy was Native carved in a Wonderfully Stylized Native American Form with Large Flared Nostrils and has 2 Early Faceted Glass Trade Bead Eyes attached through the suspension Holes with 2 Tiny Tack Nails (Brass?). The Large Mouth has Grooved carving on the inside and The Horse\'s Ears are Lying Back tight to the Head as if the Horse is Running giving it a Very Fluid feeling of Movement - Very Fine indeed. The Plain\'s Indians, particularly the Sioux and Lakota Tribes, were widely known as Expert Horseman that Trained and Bred their Horses for Speed, Agility and Beauty and who traded or Sold such Quality Horses - often for High Sums of Money, Arms or other Goods. And this Beautiful Horse Effigy Talking Stick depicts the Importance of the Magnificent Animals in to The Sioux Peoples.
