Rare Hallicrafters Super Skyrider SX-28 receiver FCC model 1940 recapped ..:
$600.00

7 DAY sale with a REASONABLE RESERVE considering the value of the unit !!ALSO NOTE: SHIPPING CALCULATOR ISN\'T ACCURATE WAIT FOR FINAL INVOICE BEFORE SENDING PAYMENT !

Here’s the rare early FCC version of the Hallicrafters SX-28 Super Skyrider shortwave/ham vacuum tube radio receiver serialno .115437 from mid 1940, one of the first SX-28’s to come off the production line! These FCC versions were also used by the Radio Intelligence Division(RID)during WWII to monitor clandestine radio transmissions. The FCC model differsfrom the regular SX-28 that it has a single ended output using only one 6V6.This was done to conserve battery power as many of these rcvrs were used. for mobile operations .

ALL paper capacitorsincluding the difficult ones inside the RF section have been replaced along with newhigh voltage electrolytics . After recapping tubes were checked and the IF and RF stages were peaked.Paint on the cabinet and the front panel is originalfactory finish with some minor blemishes here and there .NEW HEAVY DUTY rubber feet have been installed along with anew three prong power cord. Rcvr performs with excellent to good sensitivity onall bands even on the highest band it has decent sensitivity . The WWV markers come in close where they are supposed to.The earlier models had an 6SK7 as the firstRF amplifier that was later changed to a 6AB7 to improve performance on 10m . Alsothe bandspread system is GEAR driven as opposed to the cord driven system that was used on latermodels. The power and the audio output transformers are all original. And the S-meter works and gives good deflections on both the broadcast and shortwave bands! All control function as they are supposed to including the selectivity control that offers six degrees of selectivities.

The previous owner removed the stop on the band shaft on band6 so now the bad switch knob can be rotated from position 6 to position 1 with outhaving to go through 5,4,3 ,2 .Complete 360 degree rotation. This also meant the pointers behind the tuning and band spread could not be restrung. However, all the pointer mechanisms are intact .This in no shape or form affects the operation of the rcvr.

Note the radio requires a 5000/500 ohms speaker (notincluded) or a vintage high impedance headset can be used. With a 5000 ohms speaker like the PM-23 or a 500 ohms speaker like the R-42 the audiois excellent !

The matching PM-23 speaker with the chrome \'h\' on the front is being offered in a separate sale.

HEAVY radio close to 80 Lbs ! Will be DOUBLE BOXED .

If not happy send it back but buyer will be responsible for RETURN shipping ………
