Finest Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Desk Wax Seal c1907Made by Sampson Mordan Co; Hallmarked Chester
This is a wonderful solid Sterling Silver \'Desk Wax Seal\' dating to c1907, made by the highly respected firm of Sampson Mordan & Co(please see the detailed close-upphotographs provided, which form an integral part of the item\'s description).
Based on a classic Art Nouveau design the \'Seal\' has a sinuous organic shape, which is incrediblytactileyet at the same time almost architectural in style.
As shown the \'Seal\' is stamped with the Sponsor\'s Mark for Sampson Mordan & Co that was in use between 1903-1914. It also carries a full hallmark, confirming that it is made from solid Sterling Silver and that it was assayed in Chester (although the date letter is rubbed, having viewed it through a loupe at various angles I believe it is \'G\', which would date the Seal to 1907).
Overall, this wonderful Sampson Mordan \'Seal\' is in great condition, as shown; although it has been engraved with a monogram and I would assume has been used it shows only light wear commensurate with age.
This superb Desk \'Wax Seal\' stands approx\' 6cms high by 2.5cms wide & 1.8cms deep; and it weighs 49.8 grams.
In summary, this is awonderful solid Sterling Silver \'Desk Wax Seal\' of exceptional quality & condition, which dates to c1907. It is made by the highly respected firm of Sampson Mordan & Co and would surely grace anycollection.
