The Sansui AU-5500 is one of Sansui’s legendary amplifiers that highly sought after today. This is the younger brother of the venerable AU-7700 and really kicks! This model is rated at 32 watts per channel, has an incredibly warm tube-like audio quality, and has a solid damping factor of 30! This is 32 watts measured by 1970’s standards and will outperform many of today’s amps rated at 100 watts. Sansui over-engineered these units to the point that they regularly produce power that significantly exceeds this rating. The AU-5500 produces beautifully rich audio because it was engineered with a sharp attention to detail, the highest quality components, and hand-crafted workmanship.
This unit features fantastic over-engineered construction in both the chassis and electronics design. The AU-5500 was engineered with highly flexible features such as:
+ Capability for two sets of speakers
+ Bass, midrange, and treble controls
+ Two auxiliary circuits
+ A phono circuit
+ Loudness control
This unit has been painstakingly restored, is in very good condition, and sounds fantastic!
+ All of the aluminum electrolytic capacitors have been replaced on the power amp driver circuit board, the equalizer circuit board, and the tone control circuit board, the function selector board, and the power supply circuit board with brand-new high-quality Nichicon / (Muse), Elna Silmic II, and Panasonic FC series capacitors except for the large power filter caps (see pictures)
+ Replaced all diodes that tend to degrade over time
+ Replaced all transistors in the tone control section with brand new high quality Fairchild brand devices
+ Polyester film capacitors have been added to the main filter caps for better power supply regulation resulting in improved speaker cone control
+ The output transistors were removed and reinstalled with new thermal compound and brand new mica insulators
+ The output relay was replaced with a brand-new Omron relay
+ All of the old Sansui glue has been removed from all circuit boards
+ The exterior is in very good condition with blemishes typical of its age
+ All controls have been meticulously cleaned, deoxidized, and lubricated and operate smoothly to the touch
+ DC offset and Bias settings have been adjusted to factory specifications
+ All lights/LEDs are fully operational
+ The unit has been cleaned
