This beautiful coin:SPANISH ROMANcoin

C-6.Grade A+about 18 mm size. Spectacular coin.On very rare occasion one of these treasures turn up. Featuring the Emperor of Rome, Constantine who brought Christianity to the Roman empire becoming the official faith of the empire and then to the western world. How did this get to St. Augustine? Just like early crosses and medallions, a few were brought here as an ancient family relic by the first settlers. The Spanish are extremely proud of their Roman heritage, and this coin, about 1100 years already when brought here, served as a reminder of that heritage. Minted in Spain, it was made approximately 360 A.D. As far as is know, St. Augustine Fla. is the only place in the United States where any of these coins have been found. Thisis a true piece of important American History. St. Augustine Fl. is the site of the first permanent settlement in what is now the United States. It was founded in 1565.

Florida was therefore a Spanish Colony from 1565 to 1821 when it became a Territory of the United States and in 1845 became a State. The British possessed Florida for a 20 year period 1764-1784 and it then once again became Spanish Territory until 1821 when it went to the US.

Historically, Florida and St. Augustine were instrumental in the development of the United States and remain important today for many important reasons. You are encouraged to research Florida and St. Augustine on the internet and in libraries for an insight into the fascinating and vibrant contributions of this wonderful historic place to our nation.

You should note that in our country\'s early days, cash money was in short supply throughout all of North America, the American Colonies and the developing West. Those places trusted the value of Spanish coinage so much that Spanish money became the official accepted standard of the United States until the 1850s\' when the US could manufacture enough of its\' own coinage. Spanish coins were commonly used throughout North America as everyday money. The present United States money system and denominations were developed directly from the Spanish system that served us so well for so long.

This early coin was found on private property with the land owners\' permission. The coin is left in as-found condition and has not been cleaned. Most people prefer coins left uncleaned. Cleaning is a decision for you to make.

The coins that I offer are graded considering excavated conditions and standards withA++ being the highest excavated .condition andF being the lowest. You will find the grade shown in the listing of the name of the coin at the top in Bold. I do not have anything in F condition.

This coin is a very rarely found piece of Early American History. I also have other excavated coins and materials of this same vintage both Spanish and British also found in St. Augustine. All items date from 1565-the late 1700s with some dating to 1821. Items of possible interest to you would include Buttons, Buckles, Cape Pins, Religious Medallions, etc. All items guaranteed genuine.

My offerings range in price from very modest to medium expense and represent a true value. I have been recovering these materials for over 30 years, so my offerings are considerable in number.

Please carefully consider my excellent response history when making a decision to buy.
