Beautiful and special teaset of the Aesthetic Movement, highly designed in ribbed form with designs of flower and leaf shapes all swirled together with extensive lines of whirls and many lines each themselves cut out in a multitude of transverse lines, topped up on the teapot with a coral or fossil finial. The design is clearly of the period 1870 - 1890, and I have dated in the middle of that range.
Manufacturers were the long established Sturges Bladon & Middleton of Weaman Street (later at Regent Place), Birmingham, makers of fine wares from 1855 for 100 years; each piece of the set is marked on the base with the makers\' name in full along with the mark \"EPGS\" (electro plated German silver).
Condition for age is really very good, despite 100+ years it must be just about 100% free from dents, scratches and plate loss although any item so ld has some evidence of use.. I have included several photos to show adequately and took these in differing light/background to show everything which I think relevant including in the penultimate photo the only (and it is really insignificant) scraping I can find.
Sizes (my own best measuring, but approximate) -
Teapot base diameter 6 x 4.3/4in (15 x 12cm), length incl spout and handle 10in or 26cm, height 6.1/2in or 16cm. Capacity is comfortably 2 pints, say 1.2L.
Sugar and cream both to lip about 4in or 10cm high; LOA sugar 7.1/2in or 19cm, cream 4.3/4in or 12cm.
Combined weight of all 3 pieces approaching 1.5kg, about 3.1/4lb, but I cannot safely pack it at under the 2 - 5kg transport price range.
