We went down South to central Illinois for a large antique flea market recently – it’s always packed with primitive antiques, farm finds and unique items – I think you are going to like what you see!

You know, I don\'t buy dolls very often - just because I don\'t know a lot about them, but when I see one that is charming, and will go perfectly in many of my primitive customer\'s home, I don\'t want to pass it up. This one is sweet. It\'s an antique tin headed doll - marked as being made in Germany on the backside. Tin headed dolls were made in Germany from the 1880s until the 1930s. The head was made from stamped sheet metal welded together and then painted. On the front, toward the bottom of the head piece (it ends at what would be just below the shoulders), you can see the mark Minerva, with the maker\'s mark below - which is a helmet. This mark was used by the German Doll maker Buschow & Beck. These dolls were found in the early Sears catalogs under the brand name of WearWell dolls, so I read, but whether or not that is where this one came from, I don\'t know and she\'s not telling! I forgot to mention, at the back, under Germany is the number 6. She measures 22" long head to feet. As you can see from my photos, she has blonde painted hair and glue eyes. Her body is cloth - with quite a loooooooong torso in a black print, and brown cloth legs and arms - the hands with stitched details for the fingers. The material feels to me to be a cotton, and she\'s stuffed with a natural material - it looks and feels a little like small pieces of hay, but I really don\'t know what it is for sure - I\'m showing in photo 13 that she has a 1/4" hole to the material on her right left, just below the corner of the tin on the left hand side - it looks to have been made from that tin corner rubbing on the material. That being said, i don\'t see any stitching going through the holes of the tin - there\'s one hole at each corner, and I can\'t tell that it\'s actually sewn on. The black piece that I had to move in order to take a photo of the markings appears to be holding it on (and actually, it\'s held on well, not flopping or anythink like that). I\'m assuming that the black piece is not original, but I truly don\'t know for sure. The same can be said for the body - please see what you think - there\'s nothing to indicate to my untrained eye that it\'s not original, but I\'m betting you know more than I do! The body is stuffed pretty fully and is fairly solid to the touch, the arms and legs are not, they have mych less stuffing and are floppy. Now, the little knit cotton petticoat or nightshirt (?) in off white that you see her wearing in photo 3 is how she was when I bought her. I don\'t know if that\'s original, but I can tell you that the bottom has no hem, and it\'s slightly uneven, as if cut uneven by hand - see photo 5. It\'s in good condition otherwise, although I\'m sure it\'s browned some from age. Aside from the hole mentioned above, I can see no other holes, rips or structural issues. There are some wear spots, and you can tell that the fabric has darkened from age, with light soil, but it\'s not musty or moldy smelling or extremely dirty or anything like that. Her tin head is in excellent condition structurally. YOu can see chipping to the paint at the highest relief areas - like her nose - that\'s the largest spot, and there\'s other smaller spots all over. The metal showing through is very very dark and there may be some very old surface rust too - it\'s really hard to tell for sure. You can see crazing to the paint when you look very closely - see my photos. She\'s a pretty light doll, weighing just about 1 lb. What more can I tell you??? She\'s looking for a new home - one that will appreciate her for all of her primitive charm!

Customer Satisfaction is extremely important to me. If you receive an item and are not satisfied in any way, please contact me before leaving response.

Please ask if you have any questions, or feel free to inform me if you have any information about one of my listings. As with any of my items, if you ever need extra photos, let me know. My white stool, my rug and anything else that you see other than the item discussed are not included in the sale!

I’m happy to combine shipments for you. If you win an item and plan to offer on another, please hold to pay for the first item and request a combined shipping invoice once you’ve won the other item/s. I do ask that there be no more than 7 days from the purchase of the first item – I will invoice after 7 days as I cannot hold the items longer than that. Please know that some items cannot be combined, though, do to size, weight, or safety of the items. Most items set to ship in USPS FLAT RATE boxes; I cannot combine due to size restrictions. Please look at the shipping alternatives in the listings. I only mail USPS and pack in the best manner that we feel safe – I cannot change shipment methods after the close of an sale (i.e. rolling an old map to save money when I have it set to ship flat), especially if I feel the requested method is not safe. Again, I only ship USPS and charge actual cost to ship only. I ship within one business day of receipt of your payment, unless there’s a holiday that closes the post office, or I will notify you otherwise. As I shop for treasures on the weekends, I most often do not ship on Saturday.

Many of my items come from local rural estate sales and sales. They are coming right from the barn or attic to you - dust, cobwebs and all! I do not clean and polish before I sell – they are in the condition found, as you see in my photos, and I leave the patina exactly as it was when I bought the item. I do my best to photo and describe all thoroughly.

Please email me before offerding if you do not use PayPal, and we can discuss possible payment alternatives. Payment is due within 3 business days after close of sale.

With postage rates increasing regularly, I am shipping more and more items Parcel Select. Parcel Select travels by land or rail and the packages do not leave the regional post office until they fill up a bin going in the same direction (so the estimated delivery is truly only an estimate – not exact). The post office estimates 5-7 days, but it can go up higher, sometimes even 3-4 weeks in peak mailing times like the holidays. I always provide a tracking number, so you can see where your item is on any day.

Sales tax will be added for Illinois buyers.

…and thanks so much for looking, I appreciate having you as a customer!
