TRRA signal lantern made by Handlan:
$293.88

Here we have a kerosene railroad signal lantern made by Handlan for our friends at the Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis.  TRRA is a switching and terminal railway that is owned by the Class 1 railroads in St. Louis.  It was founded in 1889 and is still in business today.  Handlan was also located in St. Louis so it makes sense that TRRA would purchase lamps from their hometown company.  I regret that I do not know how TRRA used this as it is definitely not a switch or marker lamp and I don\'t think it was used for a semaphore signal.  It appears that it was designed to hang somewhere.  I vaguely recall reading something somewhere about how this was used but I don\'t remember now.  It stands 11\" tall not including the handle.  The two red glass lenses are 4\" in diameter, one was made by Corning and the other by Kopp.  They have no chips or cracks and one has some minor scratches.  The side door slides up and down easily and the brass burner and steel fount which slide in and out are in excellent condition with just minor surface rust on the fount interior.  It is possible that the exterior this one has been repainted at some point. There is a small round opening for a clear plastic (?) piece which could be used to view the flame.  I cannot tell if the plastic piece is missing or if it is there it has been painted over.  The interior appears to not have been repainted.  I think that there should be a tin baffle (not sure of the correct term) inside the cap for this lamp but it does not have one.  Overall I think this one is an unusual lamp which is very interesting.
