This is a fabulously Large and Impressive (possibly Naval) Powder Horn / Powder Flask that dates from the mid to late 18th Century. It is constructed from a single piece of large horn and wears a metal safety latch with a wooden plug and wooden base. The wooden base fitting is a bit damaged and has been pressed in but could be repaired in the right hands. The metal safety latch remains in very nice working condition. The horn body has survived in very healthy condition as well with only a small bit of insect damage along the base rim. Overall measuring 23 inches in length by 4 1/4 inches in diameter at the base.
