Currently available is this unissued MI7 Mask with Carrier made by the Dayton Tire Co. of Dayton, Ohio in 1964. Designed to replace the earlier M-9 mask, the M-I7 was introduced in 1959 with a much more streamlined filter system located inside the mask (which would be found to be inferior to an external filter). Issued from 1960 until replaced by the improved MI7 AI mask with drinking tube and resuscitation tube (later discontinued) by the late 1960\'s, issued to all branches of the service, this mask would be used to protect the wearer against chemical and biological agents seeing extensive use for riot control and by \"tunnel rats\" in Vietnam.
