Offered for your consideration is a rare opportunity to buy a truly unique, absolutely vintage 3/4 upright double bass. This H.N. White King bass is numbered 250, which according to my research, makes it a second production year model, circa 1935. The overall body length is about 43 1/2\", which would be a 3/4. The overall length from bottom of body to end of the scroll is 73\", which I believe is a hair longer than a normal 3/4 (maybe a 7/8?). The overall condition is quite rough (please watch video link below for details), but this bass still sounds very strong! There are condition issues from top to bottom, but it seems to be structurally intact. One of the four tuning keys has been broken and taped. One side of the wooden scroll work at the tuning keys has been broken off and a cats eye jewel put in its place. There are numerous striations in the wood top, running from top to bottom. There is wood and veneer loss in many areas. There are letters, etc. scratched into the bottom edge of the body (school related).
That\'s the bad news. The good news is, this bass is worth the effort! For someone with the inclination, I think it could be played without doing a full restoration. Or you could go the opposite route and bring this instrument back to its former glory! The choice is yours. As of the start of this listing, I am working on shipping logistics. It will not be cheap.
