1943 C1 has been used but not worn out. Vise was stripped, cleaned, inspected and repaired as necessary. It was then painted and re-assembled. Repairs were as follows.
Base plate was cracked. Repaired by professional welder.
Broken horseshoe washer screws were removed and threads cleaned
The spindle handle was trashed and bent. Had it replaced with a 3/4" handle made by Mountain Product in Estes Park, CO (aka wiltonviseparts.net) The new handle is made of 1144 cold formed CRS. MP also kindly bored the spindle to accommodate the new handle.
The rest of the components are what the vise came with. Cannot prove if they were on it when it left the factory in 1943.

If you are a collector who should be consuming large amounts of Metamucil, this is not the vise for you.
