Vintage Late 1950’s/Early 1960\'s Men’s Firestone Deluxe Speed Cruiser 26” Bicycle; Great Condition

This listing is for a One-Owner Vintage Men’sFirestone Deluxe Speed Cruiser 26” Bicycle in Great Used Condition. My parents gave me this bicycle sometime between1959 and 1961 (I can’t be sure how old I was at the time). It has been in storage since about 1971.

This bicycle was most likely manufactured forFirestone by Monark based on web historical articles. From the pictures there are a couple of IDnumbers visible. Stamped on the frame isthe number: M276959. Stamped on the Firestone Badge is thenumber: 398 0 9A 157 (The “9” in “398”looks different from the other “9” stamped on the badge, however, it looks morelike a “9” than any other number or letter).

You can see from the pictures that the bicycleis in very good condition given its age.The red paint and pinstripes on the bicycle are original. The tire size is 1.75” x 26”. The single speed coaster hub/brake is a PerryB-100 made in England and stamped with the number: 36-13.Everything is original except the tires which were replaced long ago,and the small reflectors installed near the bottoms of the front and rearfenders. The bicycle trim tanks andcarrier rack are in great condition.

Even though the bicycle is in good usedcondition, it does have some defects that I want to make sure you aware ofgiven its age and use. These defectsinclude:

  • The original frame paint is in good shape for a56+ year old bicycle, however, there are numerous surface scrapes and scratches.
  • There is quite a bit of surface rust on theunderside of the fenders. I stress thatit is surface rust. The paint finish isrusted but the structural integrity is not compromised.
  • The seat is no longer available and I decided tolet the next buyer find a replacement seat to their liking.
  • The top cover of the original headlight ismissing as can be seen in the pictures.
  • You will notice in the pictures a hole drilled inthe center of the rear fender underneath the luggage carrier. An after-market rear light used to be mountedin this location. The light is no longeravailable.
  • Much of the chrome looks shiny in the pictures, however, it has its share of pitting from age.The chrome most deteriorated is on the hub lever and a spot on the undersideof the handle bar stem as shown in the last two pictures.
  • The tires hold air but do have some cracks anddry rot and need to be replaced before riding.
  • The bicycle wheels have a slight wobble and wouldbenefit from being trued up. No dents ornoticeable wheel damage.
  • The crank, chain, and front and rear bearings mostlikely need to be serviced, lubricated, and re-packed given the number of years the bicycle has been in storage. Other normal maintenance to get the bike “road-ready”may be prudent.
  • At some point I painted a couple of the silverfender support brackets on the right side of the rear fender to refresh thefinish. This silver paint can be easilyremoved with steel wool if desired.

Please take a look at all of the pictures to seethe condition and email me with any questions before you make an offer. I have additional pictures I can send toserious buyers. I have done my best todescribe the bicycle condition in the pictures and the description. I want you to be happy with this VintageBicycle. It is a classic bike in greatcondition for its age.

The bicycle is Sold “As – Is”. There are NO RETURNS OR REFUNDS so pleaselook at all of the photos carefully and ask any questions before you make anoffer.

The bicycle is located in Germantown, TN, 38139for free pickup. Germantown is close toMemphis on the east side. If you wantthe bicycle shipped, I would prefer you choose a shipper that you trust to makesure the bicycle is packed well and not damaged during shipping. Contact me if you want the bicycle but wantit shipped at an additional cost to the buyer. Shipment will require some dis-assembly.The estimated packed shipping weight of thebicycle (with 10 pounds of packing) is estimated at about 55 pounds if you dodecide to have it shipped and the shipping box from FedX is approximately an additional $25.

Again, ask questions before your offer/offer and Iwill do my best to answer them.
