Dark-Stained Hand-Carved Solid-Oak Executive Desk - suitable for a Hollywood studio mogul but said by my mother to have been purchased as a surprise gift for my retired-executive father from the management offices of Marshall Field & Company when the firm vacated its State Street offices and moved north to the Miracle Mile in Chicago.
Fully paneled all around - Client side presents a beautiful full-height hand-carved panel that matches the design on the sides (see photos).
Desk top is parquet inlay in herringbone pattern. The desktop surface has been wonderfully protected by a removable tempered-glass sheet.
Eight (8) drawers in all - six are Stationery size with movable wood dividers to change the sizes of partitions. One central drawer with Yale key lock (key is missing) measures 28 x 4.75 inches. The right bottom drawer is File Folder size, with Pendaflex rail insert for Letter or Legal size folders. All drawer pulls are original wood except for the file drawer pull, which has been replaced with a matching-style metal pull for sturdiness (the original wood pull is inside).
At the top of each pedestal just beneath the desktop there is a pull-out writing panel on each side (see photo).
Optional set of rolling casters included (inside the file drawer) but not currently attached.
Remarkably free of defects, damage, or wear. Original finish all over. Some visible light wear to the finish around the drawer pulls (see photos). There\'s a one-inch long nick lower right near the foot which has been patched with wood filler. Desktop parquet lamination is still good. For ease of transport, not only can the drawers be removed, but also the desktop can be removed from the base by readily accessible bracketed wood screws on the underside edges. The glass top is not fastened to the desktop and so must be removed and carried separately for transport.

This is a treasured piece that has been in the family for 30+ years but anticipated move overseas makes it impossible to keep.
