Fine Old Cigar CutterSteel Scissor with Bone FrameSolingen (Ohligs), Germany
This small but functional cigar cutter was made by theprestigious firm of D. Herder of Ohligs, Germany. The firm and place of manufacture is clearly marked on a blade. The town of Ohilgs combined with the city of Soligen, the \"city of blades,\" in 1929, so these cutters pre-date thatyear.
Measurements: 1 5/8\" acrossand 2 1/8\" tall whenclosed; 3 1/4\" across when open; 3/8\" diameter opening
This cutter was meant to be an advertising piece, but the letters of theadvertisementhave been obscured by use. The bone frame on which they wereincised has been worn; what is left we read as, \"Great North....Milwaukee.\" The text on the other side is totally unreadable to us.
This is adelightful cutter. The bone frame has a warm worn patina from handling. Even though there has been some compromise of thesteel, the blades still work. Herder was known for producing exceptionally finecuttingpieces. We gladly answer questions or supply additional photographs.
