This is a vintage string holder like what would have been in a general store. I don\'t know exactly how old it is. It\'s not heavy enough to be cast iron so I\'m pretty sure it\'s aluminum. It\'s 6\" tall and approximately 5 1/2\" wide. It has a raised area on top where you can put a hook or run a chain or hanging wire through it, or you can stand it on it\'s 4 little feet on the bottom. This looks to have been painted at some point with a cream colored paint. It\'s got drippy places mostly inside, as can be seen in photos, and also places where the paint didn\'t cover as well. This gives it a distressed look. The top swivels open to put the string ball in, and then has a little locking hook like closure. Please note that if you put your nose up to it, it has that old metal smell, kind of like an antiques store, so if that bothers you, please do not offer! It\'s very pretty and in great shape, but not perfect on the paint finish.
