I am selling a collection of Yamaha Recording Custom drums for a friend. They are all birch shells in natural finish. I discovered, while cleaning and photographing them, that four of the drums have a signature on the inside, Hagi. I did a quick search and found that Hagi is Takashi Hagiwara. He was the lead guy and innovator for Yamaha back in the 1970s through the mid-2010s. Signature is guaranteed authentic or I will happily issue a refund. The hardware inside the drums has some oxidation from the drums being stored in a slightly damp environment between gigs but I don’t think it is too bad. The outer chrome hardware is nice, with typical light pitting here and there from use and age. I have a friend who is a professional musician (and a drum freak!!) check these out and they are all in-round. The bearing edges are all in great condition. This listing is for a Pre-YESS Mounting System, Yamaha Recording Custom, 16” by 16” floor tom-tom in natural birch finish. I do not have the legs for this drum so you are offerding on the drum-only. The badge has model No FT-916A and serial date stamp “MY”. The code “MY” identifies the letter “M” as 6 (first letter of the code designates the last digit of the year) and “Y” for the month, 11 or November. My friend swears these were acquired in the 1970s (Nov of 1976?) but the badge style is that of the 1980s (although please note that this badge has the rounded bottom corners and the top are square). Just thought it worth mentioning. You be the judge. The shell is in good shape but does have some staining/discoloration going on along the veneer seam. Otherwise it shows just typical wear from use and storage. There is a shadow where there used to be a YAMAHA sticker which has come off. The chrome does have light pitting here and there, which is not unusual for a drum this old. The rims on the “MY”-stamped drums are all cast metal. This drum, as well as the other three “MY”-dated drums, is signed Hagi on the inside of the shell.
