You are offerding on one of the rarest of novelty clocks. Please read complete, detailed description with the 14 photographs.

Known as the “Flame of Life” clock by the United Clock Co. of Brooklyn, New York, this clock was first produced in the 1930’s Art Deco era.

It has often been referred to as a clock built to express nudism, nudist colonies and freedom of expression.

The nude male and female figures are surrounded by roses, centered between them is a torch base with a mounted thermometer and flames coming from the top.

This clock was obtained from the estate of an elderly clock collector and repairman.

The clock dimensions are 14” tall; 8 ¾” outside diameter from one’s figure elbow to the other; 9” long base and 4 ¾” width and weighs almost 5 pounds.

The clock face is 4 ¾” in diameter.

The body of the clock is made out of cast metal. There are no chips, cracks or repairs in the metal. Because of the age there is some variation of color or patina but this is only expected of a clock of this age.

I put a light wax on the surface to highlight the casting.

The original green felt is still on the bottom of the clock.

The thermometer is original and works properly. There is a mounting screw at the top and as you can see there is not one at the bottom; this is the way all of the few other examples I found on the web were mounted.

This clock is electric powered by a United Clock Co. works and face.

This novelty clock came both in a wind-up model and an electric model.

I set the time and plugged this clock in for 36 hours and it kept perfect time. No buzzing, grinding, obnoxious hum or odd noises or electrical odors. The second hand operates smooth with just the most quiet circulation sound.

The face is clean. The brass bezel shows light oxidation which I haven’t tried to polish.

The lens has no cracks or scratches. There is a minute dot on the inside of the lens as seen in the last photo which is above the “6” numeral.

The interior workings are all United Clock Co. of Brooklyn, New York. The workings are clean and have no electrical smells. The time setter workers perfect.

The cord is secure and free from slices, wear or issues.

The way the backing plate is mounted in reverse, it appears the previous owner/clock collector, reversed the backing plate or replaced it with another United Clock plate. These “Flame of Life” novelty clocks were made into the late 1950’s but the molds never changed. Since this one has a slot for the cord in the rear below I the plate I believe this was always an electric model.

This is an opportunity to own a rare, special Deco novelty clock with some interesting design history.

The photos are part of the description.
